As experienced Austin postpartum doulas, we are excited to share our insights about the incredible role we play in the lives of new parents and their newborns. We understand that you may have several questions, and we are here to provide clarity.
What Is a Postpartum Doula?
A postpartum doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to families after the birth of a baby. We are your compassionate companions during the transition into parenthood, easing the journey with a wide range of services from infant care and breastfeeding assistance to light housekeeping and meal preparation. If you’re curious about how a postpartum doula can help, don’t hesitate to call our office or fill out a form for a complimentary consultation.
What Does a Postpartum Doula Do?
Postpartum doulas wear many hats! Our primary goal is to ensure that you feel comfortable, confident, and supported in your new role as a parent. This may involve baby care basics, including bathing, feeding, and diapering instruction, as well as providing sibling and mommy support. We can also assist with household tasks and help establish healthy sleep routines for both baby and parents. In essence, we are here to make your postpartum experience a smoother one. Feel free to reach out to us if you’d like to learn more about our services.
How Does a Postpartum Doula Differ from a Baby Nurse or Nanny?
While baby nurses or nannies primarily focus on the care of your baby, postpartum doulas extend their support to the entire family unit. We not only educate and assist with infant care, but we also provide emotional support, help with household duties, and provide resources and referrals as needed. Our comprehensive approach to postpartum care is designed to empower you in your parenthood journey. To discuss your unique needs, we invite you to contact us for a complimentary consultation.
Does Insurance Cover Doula Care?
We often get asked whether insurance covers doula services. Unfortunately, insurance policies may not typically cover doula care. However, Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) can often be used to cover doula services. Furthermore, fertility benefits, such as those provided by Carrot Fertility, may also cover our services. It’s important to check with your workplace provider to understand if your benefits package covers doula services. Please feel free to call us if you need guidance navigating these options.
As postpartum doulas at Austin Birth Company, we are privileged to support and guide new parents through this extraordinary journey. We pride ourselves on our compassionate, holistic approach to postpartum care and are eager to discuss how we can best support you and your family.
