Austin Birth Company exists to support families during one of the most intimate and transformative seasons of their lives. We believe excellent doula care comes from experience, professionalism, emotional intelligence, and a deep respect for boundaries — for clients and for fellow doulas.
Austin Birth Company works with independent contractor doulas, not employees. Our model is built around respect for your professional autonomy while maintaining high standards of care for the families we serve.
We collaborate with doulas based on their preferred availability, experience, and areas of focus. While we strive to create consistent schedules for our clients whenever possible, assignments are made based on availability, client needs, and overall fit.
Our requirements
To be considered, doulas must meet the following baseline requirements:
Current doula certification (birth and/or postpartum)
Active professional liability insurance
A professional, reliable approach to client care
Comfort working within established policies, contracts, and care standards
May not independently contract with, solicit, or provide doula services to clients introduced through Austin Birth Company
These requirements help protect our clients, our doulas, and the integrity of the care we provide.
How Availability Works
We do not require doulas to maintain open or on-call schedules beyond what they choose. Instead:
You tell us your preferred availability
We offer client assignments that align with that availability
You retain control over whether a proposed assignment works for you
